Helix FAQs: Which IR cabs I use

Get our Helix patches and other resources here.

In the Helix FAQ series I answer some commonly asked questions about the Line 6 Helix. I use IR Cabs in pretty much all my patches, and typically I’ll run two IR cabs per patch (basically like taking one amp and running it to two cabs).

    Brian,

Thanks for the insight on the Path 2A/2B parallel split — neat idea!

I applied last night as I revised the Helix patch I used last year for TSO’s “First Snow” in preparation for an upcoming service. In contrasting the difference between the preset I used for 2015 and the revised version, perhaps what I notice most of all the slight random variances in how the revised Helix preset responds, a feature of the analog gear that I used for several years before the Helix (e.g., Matchless and Mesa heads, Wampler OD & distortion pedals, PettyJohn Electronics PreDrive, TC Electronic and Strymon delays, etc.). Granted, it’s one of those things that wouldn’t register audibly for some folks, but it matters for the player in how they feel and sense their expression of the music they play.

    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Thanks Mike! Yeah there are so many little things that really nobody but the player will hear or notice, but I agree – it all makes a big difference to us.
